I have to say, I love being in the creative blogging niche. It’s a very generous one, from what I can see. For the most part the bloggers I know focus on contributing and collaborating rather than competing. Growing up in a house with four younger brothers, I’m all about teams! I notice a lot of cross promotion in the craft blogging world, and I want to do my part as well. One of the tools I use to accomplish this is Bloglovin. It’s an RSS reader, and I like the format. I know a lot of bloggers use it, but I know more than don’t. So I thought I’d talk a little bit about Bloglovin and how I use it on a daily basis to promote other bloggers.
Before you can experience the full awesomeness of Bloglovin, you’ll need to visit the home page and sign up with either Facebook or your e-mail address. Set up your profile and claim your blogs, as you can see I’ve done above. Claiming your blogs allows you to show up as the author when people find your blog . . . so they can follow you (in addition to follow your blog). You’ll also be able to get stats for your blogs, AND share new posts automatically via social media when they go live.
Once you get your profile set up, start following blogs. You can search for your favorites using the search box at the top right, or find people you know and look at their favorites. Other ways are to use the “Popular” and “Find Blogs” tabs at the top. “Find Blogs” is my favorite because it will recommend blogs just for you. Be liberal about your following!
Once you’ve followed blogs, you’ll see their new posts appear in the “My Feed” tab at the top.
I also follow “friends” in Bloglovin. If you connect your social media accounts, you can find friends that way – or you can find them based on the fact that they are probably owners of the blogs you follow. Here’s what I love about following people: you can see posts that they’ve liked under “Friend Activity” on the right side. My friends have great taste, if I do say so myself! I love going into their stream and finding posts to promote.
Once you start following a bunch of blogs, go to “My Feed” to see their posts. This is when I start promoting. Click “Like” on those posts that you fancy, and you’ll see a little dropdown. You can post to Facebook or you can tweet a link. Not only did you just share a post, but liking it makes it show up on your profile . . . so people can browse your likes when they follow you.
For posts I like, I open them in another window. I promote them in a few ways. I pin them using a bookmarklet or schedule them to pin on Ahalogy. I also give them a thumbs up on StumbleUpon. I especially love adding the StumbleUpon element because I discover a lot of new posts that way – and if you use SU, you know that discovering can give you good SU street cred.
I hop onto Bloglovin daily to read through posts, look at my friends activity, and share just as you see above. It takes some time, but spreading the love is worth it! And while you are on Bloglovin, no one says you can’t share your own posts as well. Enjoy!
