Creativity heals and enriches our lives. it’s the foundation of society. I teach people how to be makers. And I believe anyone can be creative.
Hi friends! I’m a lifetime crafter, maker, writer . . . tinkerer. I love adventures and I’m always open to a new opportunity. I always have something in common with everyone! If you’re reading this, that means I do with you, too.
My life has never been easy. Maybe you can relate. One thing that has always been there for me, no matter what, is crafts. I want to give that gift to everyone, including future generations. My passion is teaching crafts of all kinds from yarn to decoupage. I want everyone to access the creativity that is within them. The world needs it!
You can learn more about me professionally here. My work has been featured in Huffington Post, Better Homes & Gardens, Woman’s Day, and Wired, amongst others. My blogs currently have a combined 1 million+ page views per month.
In 2005 I started writing on a LiveJournal account (remember those?) about my life. It quickly transitioned to writing about crafts, since that's always been a hobby of mine. In 2008 I decided to learn how to use Mod Podge and write about it. I started on Blogger and the rest is history. In 2014, Mod Podge Rocks won a Bloggie for the Best Arts, Crafts, or Design Weblog. That's sorta like the Oscars, but different. Anyway, I love showing people how to craft.
Writing about Mod Podge is fun, but I'm a bit of a renaissance crafter. I like to do a little bit of everything, including DIY and even some baking. I decided to add an additional blog so that I could write about any creative pursuits that I wanted, and DIY Candy was born.
Have you ever wanted to learn origami? Origami is a very unique craft. It's important due to its mental and physical health benefits, its ability to teach skills, and cultural relevance and history. Join us on our paper folding journey!
My focus at UGA was getting the business education that I wanted and needed after my science-based undergrad. Little did I know that this knowledge would come in handy not just for my career, but also for running my own business.
Yes I know a forestry degree is unusual and no, I never worked in forestry a day in my life. Having said that - I fully developed my quantitative skill set at U-Dub. Being able to analyze data and outcomes is essential to my online businesses.
I like the color orange, frozen yogurt, cars, anything outdoors, and making people laugh.
On a daily basis I do one or all of the following: create content for my craft and DIY blogs, copy edit, strategize, (insert) drink coffee, consult with brands, explore future project ideas, come up with my next venture, entertain scenarios to appease my sometimes off-the-wall imagination. Hearing someone say “what would you think if we . . . ?” gets my immediate attention.
A variety of careers and the desire to know a little bit about everything has brought me where I am today.
